Hi everyone!  Thanks for a great meeting last night.  I’ve updated our mailing list with all the new addresses from last night.  Obviously if you’re not getting this email then you can’t tell me that it didn’t work, but if you hear of anyone not getting my messages, please let me know and I’ll try to fix the problem.

*  Our scrimmage is tomorrow (Thursday) at 2pm and you are all, of course, invited.  If you plan to attend I highly recommend wearing light clothing and bringing something cold to drink.  With the current heat wave it will be extremely hot on the pool deck at that hour.  The girls will probably be ok since they are lightly dressed and will be in a cold pool, but the spectator section will probably be intolerable.  I’m working on getting some fans brought in, but it isn’t a done deal yet.

It’s nearly here! The start of swim season is only two days away. The first practice is Friday from 8-11am with a Varsity dry-land workout from 2-3:30pm. A few notes:

* I’m attaching our completed schedule. There will certainly be minor changes as the season progresses, but this is the schedule we will follow.

* Our parent meeting will be on Tuesday, August 31st. There will be a dinner offered by the Spencerport Sports Booster Club at 5:30 ($5 for a hamburger or hot dog and drink). That will be followed by a meeting with Mr. Pelin at 6pm in the HS Auditorium which will be followed by a meeting with me at 6:30. Please make every attempt to attend this meeting.

* Please note that State Law requires all of our swimmers to make 10 practices before participating in a meet. Our scrimmage with Penfield occurs after our 11th practice meaning that anyone missing two or more practices to start the season will be ineligible for the scrimmage.

* As mentioned previously, please note that all swimmers and divers are welcome to attend the “Varsity Only” practices. While they are not mandatory for JV, they are an excellent opportunity to improve conditioning and build strength.

* What to bring to practice: Swim cap and backup; goggles and backup; a suit; gym shorts; a t-shirt; sneakers; a water bottle.

The girls’ team practice schedule has been updated. It now reflects the addition of a September 2nd scrimmage and the Brockport Harvest Relays. The dates and times of Sectional meets are still up in the air.

The girls’ team had its parent meeting on July 1st.  Here’s a brief rundown of the conversation:

• Recertification on July 28th. First practice on August 20th
• Homecoming parade on September 18th.  Probably two floats this year with enough room for all the girls
• Senior night on 10/19.  We have a volunteer to coordinate activities but will be looking for contributions from all the parents of juniors.
• Spencerport Invite is 10/16.  This meet will not conflict with the PSAT exams.  Coach is looking for volunteers to help run this meet.
• The team is looking for ideas/volunteers for team activities like pasta dinners, slumber parties, etc…
• Applebees fundraiser is on August 7th
• Car Wash is August 14th
• Apparel will be done through Sports 2 the Max.  Coach Nellist will prepare an apparel order at the start of season.
• We have a volunteer for meet programs.
• We have a volunteer for the team video.

Due to a mis-communication with the school district, we will be unable to start our summer camp on Monday, July 5th. The first day of camp will instead be on Tuesday, July 6th.

The Varsity/JV Parents Meeting will take place on July 1st for the girls team.  The meeting will be held at the High School West Cafeteria starting at 7pm.  Items to be discussed will include:

It was a great night for the Spencerport Swim Teams at the district’s annual Athletics Banquet on June 9th.  Among the biggest honorees of the night were seniors Chris Plummer and Amanda Clapper.

Chris, a captain and breaststroker on our boys team took the Duane Tucker Award.  The award was based on attendance, sportsmanship, academic performance and athletic performance.  Chris was a Sectional finalist in the 100 breaststroke and finished with the 3rd best swim in that event in Spencerport history.  Chris was also a captain on Spencerport’s Cross-Country and Baseball teams.

Amanda, a diver and captain of the girls team was a winner of the Rob Stultz Memorial Award and the Spencerport Sports Booster Club Award.  Amanda has a tremendous athletics career at Spencerport. She was a four-year varsity diver for the Rangers and in her senior year she finished in 3rd place at the Sectional Meet.  Amanda was also a standout for the Bowling team and was the Sectionals Champion in her senior season.  Captain of the team, she also participated in the State Meet as a part of the Section V bowling squad.

The banquet also honored several other Ranger swimmers and divers.  The boys team was honored one last time for winning the Division II championship.  The winners of the swim teams’ individual awards were recognized:
* Kaitie Buckwell – Most Valuable
* Samantha Walker – Most Improved
* Beth Mahoney – Scholar Athlete
* Mike Spiegel – Most Valuable
* Austin Nau – Most Improved
* Derek Spath – Scholar Athlete.

Spencerport also recognized several swimmers and divers in the Senior Ranger Awards.  Chris Plummer, Tori Cenzi, Kaitie Buckwell, and Amanda Clapper all earned more than 6 varsity letters in their careers.   Kristian Barbato, Jen Benamati, and Chris Plummer were also winners of Blue and Gold awards for earning 3 varsity letters in one school-year.

The tentative practice schedule can be found here.  Please note that this is only a tentative schedule and is likely to change.  Some notes:

* The Spencerport Invite is on October 16th.  This is the same date as one of the test dates for the PSAT’s. Girls who wish to take this test should schedule a different testing date.
*  The Hilton Invite is on September 11th.  This will not interfere with homecoming this year.
*  First day of practice is on August 20th.  This is a Friday.
*  We will be having Varsity-only double practices during pre-season.  These will only be two times per week and the second workout will be a dry-land practice.
